Jacqueline Hansen at THE 1840 HOUSE
Workshops and Custom Designing

 About Us

In 1968, on the suggestion of a friend, I enrolled in a rug hooking class at Berry's of Maine, a rughooking and needlecraft supply shop in Yarmouth, Maine. Unbeknownst to me that a few years later I would buy that business and merge it with my established interior decorating business. For the last twenty years I have concentrated in the art and trade of traditional rug hooking.
Having studied at the Massachusetts School of Art and teaching in that field in New York, teaching rug hooking came naturally. In my early years, I taught at the YWCA in Portland, Maine. Currently I conduct classes and workshops in my shop, The 1840 House, and at workshops and seminars held around the country.

Special requests for designs and my love for drawing started me in the direction of compiling a design catalog called, "Jacqueline Designs, for the Joy of Hooking." I continue to welcome special requests for a design. Color planning is also available, the cost will be according to the size of the pattern. We carry Videos, Books, Manuals, Rug Hooking Needles, Wool Stripping Machines, Rug Hooking Frames, Swatches and Wool Material (Plaids, textures, and solid colors) by the yard.  We also carry Fabric Backings including Linen, Rug Warp, Monks Cloth, and Panel Clothe( polyester).  Please check for current pricing.   For a complete list available via .pdf, ..\The1840HouseOrderForm.pdf, or send SASE for Supply Brochure to:
