Beginning Rug Hooking Class to be held at Knit Witts Yarn Shop in Brookfield, MA on 11/14/09
This class is for those who would like to try rug hooking with wool fabric strips and wool yarns. No experience is required, although experienced rug hookers are most welcome to come for a refresher.
This is a "first steps" class. In the two hours, you will be learning the basic technique of pulling wool strips or yarns through a backing to create a pile and have time to practice, practice, practice. Although you may not complete the project in the time allotted, you should have no trouble doing so at home.
The project is a basic, striped 8" square which I have finished as a gadget bag with zipper. My construction notes will be included with your course materials. You may, however, choose to finish and use your square as a hot pad/table mat, a pillow top, an applique on a canvas tote bag or ??????
Quilting hoops will be provided in class for your use but you will need either a hoop or a frame at home to continue. We will have some frames available for purchase during or after the class. Also, tips will be given if you would like to construct a simple frame yourself. If you already have a frame or hoop, please bring it. Let us know if you will be doing so. PLEASE NOTE that embroidery hoops are not suitable for rug hooking. A 12" or 14" wooden quilting hoop, round or oval, is required.
You should bring to class: short, pointed scissors, such as embroidery scissors; a frame or hoop as described above, if you have one; a selection of bits and pieces of yarns leftover from past projects; notebook and pen for class notes. Also, since rug hooking is notoriously "linty" you might not want to wear black! A full apron or smock may come in handy, too.

Cost of class which includes materials: $45.00 (pre-paid at least one week in advance, non-refundable). Materials include hooking fabric backing, hook, pre-cut wool strips to complete project
Available for purchase the day of the class at Knit Witts will be Puritan frames and basic wooden frames and tacks. PLEASE NOTE that I cannot accept credit cards at class time, so bring cash or your checkbook if you wish to purchase any of these items. Lots of glorious YARNS, however, are available for cc purchase from Knit Witts!
