Keep the fires of patriotism burning and support the legacy of those lost on September 11 by purchasing mug rug kits from the Lone Star Hooking
Guild. Proceeds from the kits, which sell for $15 each, will be donated to
the Families of Freedom Scholarship Fund, benefiting financially needy dependents of those killed or permanently disabled as a result of the
horrific terrorist attacks on America.
Designed in honor of the victims and our country, the mug rug design features a red-white-and- blue flag within a heart. Finished measurement is
just under 5 inches square.
Because guild members are supplying kit materials, the purchase price (minus postage only) will be donated from the Lone Star Hooking Guild to the
Families of Freedom Scholarship Fund. Among those to benefit from the fund
are "airplane crew and passengers, World Trade Center and Pentagon workers and visitors, and relief workers, including firefighters, emergency medical
personnel and law enforcement personnel," states the web site,
www.familiesoffreedom.org. The fund is endorsed by former President Bill Clinton and former Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole, who are serving as co-chairs. To date, guild kit sales have netted $200 for this noble cause.
"These mug rugs serve as a patriotic reminder of our love of country and our solidarity as a nation," says Lone Star Hooking Guild President Liza
Leggett. "And what better way to enjoy rug hooking than to support an import
ant cause while doing it."
The mug rugs make terrific gifts, for yourself or others. Consider hooking a set for your home or for a friend's. Or teach a friend to hook
with this easy project.
To order a mug rug kit, contact Sue Morris at 214/349-7422 or [email protected].
Checks should be payable to:
Lone Star Hooking Guild, with "Families of Freedom Fund" in the memo section. Kits will be sold through
year end, with final fund-raising figures included in a future ATHA newsletter guild report.
The Lone Star Hooking Guild, a chapter of the Association of Traditional Hooking Artists (ATHA), meets the second Saturday of each month in the
Dallas area. For more information, please contact Liza Leggett at
