Thank you so much for all of your input. What I ended up doing was simmering some recycled purple wool with about a tbsp of powdered detergent, until some of the colour came out. I then added 2 small pieces of the electric yellow, one piece I only left in for about 20 seconds, the other for a minute. The 20 second one is very nice, not so "electric" now with a very slight tinge of an antique look to it. The second piece was left in too long, and as you said Basha, it now is quite"muddied" but will do for another project. I really enjoy dyeing with the recycled wool, even though it is uncertain what the outcome will be! (I also simmered my finished wool with a couple of Tbsp vinegar for about 20 mins to set the new colour)
