: I am a beginning hooker and need help in selecting a frame or hoop. Can anyone give me some good advice? Am I better off spending the money to buy a Puritan, or could I be just as satisfied with a less expensive hoop? Thanks!

Hi Judy! Have you hooked anything yet? I would suggest you try a 14" quilting hoop for your first project to see if you really enjoy hooking. It's a little awkward at first but it's alot cheaper than the more expensive frames. If you decide later, you can always invest in a frame and use the hoop when you travel (it's more compact). If you've been hooking and really enjoy it and are looking for a frame then I would suggest getting one of the collapsable frames ( the kind that fold flat). Most new hookers are buying that type and have a good reaction to them. the Puritan frame is rather expensive and most new hookers don't care for them. I love mine(Puritan)but I've loaned it out several times and my students don't care for it. Do you have someone near you that you can try theirs out for awhile to test it? Good luck, hope this helps.
