Did they talk about pin guards on their website? I remember (vaguely) something about the pin guards. I have a simalr type of lap frame with nails and use the really soft wood (I think they are called the moldings that you buy to go around doors and windows?) that I just push down over the nails, I wonder if it would work with the pins?
