If you are good with your computer, why donīt you use a graphic program (corel trace?). You can scan in your photo and trace it with your computer.
Another very easy possibilty is to use a slide, throw it on the wall. There you can fix a sheet of paper in the size of your rug and draw the lines you like on the paper.
You can also use an overhead projector. (Scan in your photo and print it out on a overhead transparency.)
